Sworn & certified translation
Sworn translation in Spain, accepted by Spanish authorities
A sworn translation (traducción jurada) is an official, certified translation accepted by Spanish authorities. Each one is prepared and digitally signed by a translator appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC), giving it the same legal standing as the original. Upload your document, see the exact price with VAT included before you pay, and receive a legally valid signed PDF — standard delivery in 4 business days, or from 6-12 hours when it is urgent.
What is a sworn translation?
A sworn translation is an official translation certified by a MAEC-appointed sworn translator, legally equivalent to the original for use before Spanish authorities. In English it is often called a "certified translation" — for official use in Spain the two terms mean the same thing.
The translator certifies that the translation faithfully reproduces the original, signs it, and takes full legal responsibility for its accuracy. To check who is qualified to do this, see our page on the MAEC-appointed sworn translator.
Where it's accepted
Because it is certified by a MAEC-appointed translator, a Traducet sworn translation is accepted across the Spanish administration, including:
- Oficinas de Extranjería (immigration offices)
- Registro Civil and Ministerio de Justicia
- Universities and academic institutions
- DGT (driving licence exchange)
- Notaries and registrars
- Courts and tribunals
- Consulates and embassies

Digitally signed & valid
Your translation is delivered as a PDF signed with a qualified electronic signature. Under Orden AUC/213/2025 and the eIDAS regulation (Reg. (EU) 910/2014), this carries exactly the same legal weight in Spain as a physical stamp. For the full detail on why a digital sworn translation is valid, see our digital sworn translation guide.
