What is a sworn translation?

A sworn translation (tradución jurada) is an official translation that attests to the fidelity and accuracy of the original document, certified by a translator appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC). Only MAEC-appointed translators can produce translations with legal validity for use before Spanish authorities: consulates, civil registries, universities, the DGT, immigration services, and courts.

Digital signatures: fully valid under Orden AUC/213/2025

Under Orden AUC/213/2025 (BOE, 7 March 2025), sworn translations certified with a qualified electronic signature (certificado electrónico cualificado de persona física under eIDAS Reg. (EU) 910/2014) carry exactly the same legal weight as a physical stamp. The signature must cover the entire document in PAdES format.
